Sometimes your mind can wander and catch only half of what somebody tells you. This can lead to a lot of problems, like a spouse that gets angry. Or maybe you weren’t listening to a boss and a colleague ended up with that promotion you were counting on. Effective listening is not a gift or talent, but something that can be acquired through practice and a desire to get ahead.

The purpose of this web site is to provide help in improving your listening comprehension skills. It caters to adults who work in an office environment that need to strengthen their ability to listen at key moments in their career.

This web site is made up of quizzes that accompany audio recordings. Listen first to the audio file for each “story.” The story is either a letter of correspondence or set of verbal instructions or maybe a story. This information is usually no longer than one to three paragraphs and should take no longer than three minutes of listening time. After you listen to each recording, you will then proceed to take a ten question, multiple-choice answer quiz based on what you listened to. After taking the quiz, hit the “Evaluate” button on the bottom of the quiz page. This will take you to the results where you will find any incorrect answers with the correct answers listed.

Each week a new audio recorded file will be added along with the accompanying quiz. So come back as often as you like and you can listen to one recording as many times as you feel necessary to help improve your listening comprehension skills.

Disclaimer – The stories in the audio files and the corresponding quizzes are fictitious. Any similarity to actual events or people is purely coincidental.
